I recommend you visit Myrtle Street, Chippendale not far from Central Station in Sydney and if possible talk to Michael Mobbs who initiated the roadside food gardens and public composting facilities in Myrtle Street and Peace Park. Michael’s website is http://www.sustainableHouse.com.au
Hello Erin, just read your article in the Hamilton press and decided to contact you with the possibility of meeting with our new mayor Julie Hardaker to discuss an idea I have for a garden project in the suburbs. I believe our mayor is inviting people with interesting ideas for Hamilton to put them forward for discussion and I think my idea may work. I was wanting to see if it is possible to utilize the vacant land in Shakespeare Avenue to make a community garden that the residents can look after and be able to contribute to in a positive way and feel rewarded for their efforts. This is in a lower socio economic area and I feel the people would benefit immensely from a challenge as this. I would love to hear your thoughts on my idea and how best I can put this to Julie Hardaker.
Kind regards
Mane Stanley
Hi Mane,
I’d be happy to hear more about your idea – perhaps we can schedule a phone call to discuss it. Because I’m only here through mid-December, I feel it would be a good idea for you to connect with the Hamilton Permaculture Trust on this as well. We’re gathering this evening for a meeting – I will be sure to bring it up.
